Dogon Granary Door, Mali
Highly stylized with crocodiles (symbolizing energy) and male and female ancestral images. The Dogon were cliff dwellers and of early Egyptian descent. Dogon art is primarily sculpture and revolves around ideals and freedom. The sculptures are not made to be seen publicly and are commonly hidden from the public eye within the houses of families, sanctuaries or kept in a Hogan. The importance of secrecy is due to the symbolic meaning behind the pieces and the process by which they are made. Buyer pays shipping separately.
